Welsh Highland Railway surprise
06/10/02 -- The following is an extract from the Welsh Mountain Railway's spring 1998 newsletter The Snowdon Ranger.

Motive Power
Since my last report the new locomotive shed has been brought into commission. From the humble circumstances of the Old Goods Shed, 138 was moved round to the new shed early in February The floor had been painted:- red for 'work' areas, green for 'walking' areas. with a narrow white line between them.

The pattern of fortnightly working weekends has settled down into a regular and reliable system, one of the results of which has been making 138 ready for service for the season. Fortunately, work was well advanced, as the Inspector of the Public Inquiry asked for a demonstration of operations this took place in late January.

Early in March, the boiler unit of 143, and her cab and tanks, were delivered to Dinas. Work on making it ready for assembly with the engine units has started in earnest and we might just have started to reduce the long list of jobs prepared by Jon Whalley. There is still a long way to go and your participation is heartily recommended!

The opportunity was taken during the weekend of 21/22 March to sort the balcony stores, to make way for components of 143, and our stock of tools. A large batch of tools was delivered on 3 April, having been purchased from Weldpar in Waunfawr. This is noteworthy because a village the size of Waunfawr is not a place in which one would normally expect to obtain engineering tools!"

01/03/2000 -- The following is an extract from the Liverpool Daily Post's BUSINESS WEEK WALES review of our website.

Web Watch By Christian Lowe
"WELDPAR, a small welding firm based near Caernarfon, has just launched this website. The designers have taken the welding theme to heart: there is animation of a blowtorch in use and all the icons are done out to look like rusty steel plates.  The site itself is efficient enough, listing the company’s products, its welding methods, news and contact details. It also allows you to apply on-line for additional information on Weldpar’s products.  Most impressive, the designers seem to have found a way around the dilemma that has confounded many Welsh website designers: how to make it bi-lingual without compromising on design.  Instead of cramming in Welsh text alongside the English on every page, this one has an entirely separate Welsh site with links to English and vice versa.
Verdict: small firm with a big Web presence."
